Do you run? I don't — so I made this to give myself a reason, and I think runners will like it.

From an F1 circuit to a running route

Looking for ideas on Pinterest one day, I found people making picture frames of F1 circuits, and they looked great. Việt Nam has no F1 track, but it has a huge running community, and everyone shares their routes on Strava. So I tried a frame built on the running route instead.

Drawing each one by hand would take forever. It had to be automatic.

GPX: the data already exists

Back to basics: Strava can draw your route because it collects GPS data from your phone or watch. So the question was whether Strava lets you download that data. It does: open an activity on the Strava website and you can download all of its GPS data as a.gpx file.

And with Claude's help I built a website where anyone can upload their GPX file and get a frame straight away: the map of where they ran, with the route printed in 3D relief.

Three options

I asked a friend who runs. Besides the road runners, he said, the trail community in the hills and forests is just as big, and they would love a model that follows the elevation. So I added a second option for the trekkers: a 3D terrain model with the route on it. And a third, a small terrain medal, for when there is no room to display something large.

All three come with plenty of ways to make it yours: the colour of the route, the height, a personal photo, and more to discover. If you like what you see, press Place Order and leave your contact details — I deliver it to your door.

One small note: the site works on a computer only for now — you need a computer to download the GPX anyway.
